Religion

In this blog post I share my personal opinion on faith and religion. If you're not OK with that, just don't read this post. Don't argue.

Religion.

It's a complicated and overly personal thing. Even though we may share the same religion, we may have different beliefs and viewpoints on things in life.

First, to get something out of the way. I'm a Roman Catholic but I respect every religion and every faith because God teaches us to love everyone and to be kind to everyone, not to fight and spill blood.

Everyone has, at least once, asked themselves: "What is going to happen after I die?" or "What a miracle that [x] happened!". And everyone that has asked themselves those questions surely had some kind of answer in mind. Be it God, aliens or whatever.

The point is that this is a fundamental thing humans do to explain something unexplainable. Because, without any kind of faith, we lose point in life. We have to find a way to explain something that we can't be sure about. If someone dies, they can't just return to tell us if they actually went to heaven or if there is nothing after death.

And without proof, it's hard to believe either. But the entire point of religion is believing without concrete proof. Belief is a crucial part of human nature. It's what keeps us afloat even at our hardest points.

But what I've realized over the past few years is that even though any religion is a unity of people, not all of us share the same principles or beliefs even though we believe in the same God or whatever else. I believe that a personal connection with God (or with whoever you believe in) is much more important than belonging to a specific group.

If you dive deep into any religion out there, you'll realize that it's core teaching is centered about one thing - love. The single most important thing we can share. Being kind to others and giving them just the smallest token of affection or gratitude can make someone's day. And it always makes you feel better too.

And I need to emphasize this. Even if you're an atheist or agnostic, love is still something you should cherish and share. Because it's an universal language that everybody understands. It's hard to define what love is, but everyone has felt it.

It's hard to imagine a utopic world - and I would go as far as to say stupid. But if one were to exist - it would certainly be filled with love, gratitude, happiness and affection.

"See, in a perfect world, I'll choose faith over riches
I'll choose work over b-, I'll make schools out of prison
I'll take all the religions and put 'em all in one service
Just to tell 'em we ain't sh-, but He's been perfect, world"
