Practicing My Writing

~2 mins 03 Sep 2024

Ever since this blog started I have little by little started practicing my writing in English. Since English is not my first language, but it is used by many people in the world, it's nice to practice it because I will surely need it in the future.

This blog isn't a professional writing space, but it sure is a space where I can express myself in about topics I like, not in any limiting way. It happens often that I have grammatical or formatting mistakes, but I later realize the mistakes and in the end, learn from them so it's a win-win

Also, this blog is a great way to contribute to the small web community and the Fediverse in general. Someone may enjoy or find something useful in my articles, even though they are mostly written for my practice. So in the end my posts have a positive impact either way - helping others or just helping myself.

If you don't have a blog, you should start one. You can use a blog platform like the free one bearblog or start a website yourself like I did (which in the end betters my programming and writing, that's a double!). Blogging has a lot of positives for all writers (and that is 99.9% of us) :)

Also, since we are already talking about writing, I wanted to mention Amin's new project, WritingMonth. It is a continuation of NaNoWriMo, which if you didn't know, was a platform for helping writers track their progress and other stuff

Quote from their website:

"Writing a novel alone can be difficult, even for seasoned writers. NaNoWriMo helps you track your progress, set milestones, connect with other writers in a vast community, and participate in events that are designed to make sure you finish your novel. Oh, and best of all, it’s free!"

But it's not all that good... NaNoWriMo recently had a stupid take on AI writing (you can read it here) which made a good chunk of people leave the platform. Amin is now creating a "continuation" of NaNoWriMo that focuses on the same goals and is community-based.

Before this controversy began I never knew NaNoWriMo existed, so a new community-based platform will surely be a better intro to helping my writing than NaNoWriMo :)
