Be More Offline

We are becoming too glued to our screens.

This is the unfortunate reality of today. And while some may not acknowledge the problem as significant as it is, it is indeed a problem that our generation is facing the most.

Ever since childhood, I've been exposed to screens. Beit laptops, computers, phones, tablets, or whatever else, I always knew what they were and what they were used for.

Thankfully, I was born in 2009, when screens weren't as widespread with children as they are now. It is more common now that I see parents giving their kids phones (and especially YouTube Shorts or TikTok) to scroll through for them not to be bored. Kids are losing the ability to actually think straight and develop fine motor skills because they are used to scrolling. I find this awful.

As someone who as a teen spent way too much time in front of a screen, instead of going out with friends or playing sports, I deeply regret this. That's why I find it awful that kids as young as 1 or 2 are exposed to such brainwashing.

And while I do still spend too much time in front of a screen, I actually realized it and am working to fix my screen addiction. Being an extrovert, it's much more fun for me to go out to parties, functions, or just a simple get-together than scrolling on TikTok. It makes me (and I bet a lot of other people too) feel lazy and lonely.

That's why I think we should work on fighting screen addiction and being more open to true human connection. Even in the age of being connected via the internet, we are more disconnected than ever. Everything's becoming more and more monotone.

The internet is not what it was 20 years ago. Back then, it was simple and it was used just as a tool. Now it's become a part of our daily lives, which doesn't inherently mean it's bad, but we have to learn to use it the right way. We have to consume the internet, and not let it consume us.

Don't waste time scrolling or typing comments. Work on yourself and your skills. Go out, enjoy life, do stuff, learn from your mistakes. And remember to use the internet right.

Even though this is a widespread problem - this isn't a fight to be fought. It's a personal choice.
